Kindergarten is the beginning of a child's formal school journey—and we believe that beginning matters.

At A Heart for Children, our Kindergarten Programme combines the Alberta Education curriculum, Alberta-certified teachers, and an intentionally small class of approximately 10–12 children to provide children with a highly supportive and engaging educational experience.

Our small-class approach means children aren't simply part of a classroom. They are known. Their teacher has the opportunity to understand their strengths, recognize where they need support, challenge them when they're ready, and build the relationship that helps them feel confident taking risks as learners.


Alberta-Certified Teachers

Our Kindergarten Programme is led by Alberta-certified teachers with professional knowledge of curriculum, assessment, child development, and effective instructional practices.

Teachers intentionally plan, teach, observe, assess, and adapt learning experiences based on the children in their classroom.

Our Kindergarten Programme follows the Alberta Education curriculum, providing children with the educational foundation expected in kindergarten while maintaining the play, movement, creativity, exploration, and relationships young children need.

Children develop early literacy and numeracy skills through explicit teaching combined with hands-on experiences, conversation, exploration, games, stories, and meaningful practice. We want children to develop skills—but we also want them to understand, question, problem-solve, and become active participants in their learning.

Communication Is Essential to Learning

Communication is central to success at school. Children need language to understand new concepts, follow instructions, participate in discussions, develop literacy, build friendships, solve problems, and ask for help.

Our foundation in education and speech-language development brings a unique lens to the classroom.
