The preschool years are filled with discovery. Children are learning how to make friends, communicate their ideas, manage big feelings, become more independent, and understand the world around them.

At A Heart for Children, our Preschool Programme provides a warm and engaging environment where children can learn through what they do best—play. Our programme combines purposeful play, meaningful relationships, and intentional early learning experiences to help children build confidence, curiosity, communication skills, and a positive first connection with learning.

Why Preschool?

Preschool gives children valuable opportunities to learn and grow outside of the home while still honouring their need to play, explore, move, imagine, and create. Through their preschool experiences, children begin to develop:

Communication skills – expressing ideas, asking questions, listening, building vocabulary, and participating in conversations.
Social skills – making friends, taking turns, sharing, cooperating, and learning how to be part of a group.
Emotional skills – recognizing feelings, communicating needs, managing frustration, and developing resilience.
Independence – following routines, making choices, managing belongings, trying things independently, and asking for help.
Early literacy – enjoying books, stories, songs, rhymes, sounds, letters, and early writing experiences.
Early numeracy – exploring counting, patterns, shapes, sorting, measurement, and mathematical thinking.

Fine and gross motor skills – developing strength and coordination through art, sensory experiences, movement, outdoor play, and hands-on activities.

Play Is Learning

When young children play, they are doing much more than having fun. Building a tower involves planning, problem-solving, spatial awareness, and persistence. Pretend play develops language, imagination, cooperation, and social understanding. Art strengthens creativity and fine-motor skills. Songs and rhymes build foundations for literacy.

Our educators understand the learning happening within children's play and intentionally create opportunities to extend it. We call it play with purpose.

Preschool vs. Daycare

Both quality daycare and preschool can provide children with safe, caring environments. The difference is often in the primary purpose and structure of the programme.

Daycare is generally designed to provide care for children over longer periods of the day.
Preschool is an early learning programme. The environment, activities, routines, and educator interactions are intentionally designed around children's development and emerging learning skills.

At A Heart for Children, this doesn't mean pushing academics earlier. It means being purposeful about the experiences we provide and understanding how communication, relationships, play, movement, and exploration contribute to children's development.

Small Groups. Strong Connections.

Young children learn best when they feel safe, comfortable, and connected. Our small-group environment gives educators more opportunities to talk with children, join their play, notice their interests, support emerging skills, and respond when a child needs a little extra encouragement. We want every child to feel known—not simply supervised.

Communication Matters

Our foundation in education, speech-language development, and early childhood support influences the way we approach preschool. Communication is woven throughout the day through stories, songs, conversations, imaginative play, peer interactions, and everyday routines. We help children develop the confidence to express themselves, interact with others, ask for help, and discover that their voice matters.
